The Waltham Petcare Science Institute is the science centre for Mars Petcare. Our research teams work across multiple disciplines such as nutrient requirements for pets, the dog and cat microbiome, biomarkers of health and disease, and feeding behaviour. The knowledge generated at Waltham is vital in bringing to life the Mars Petcare purpose: A BETTER WORLD FOR PETS.

We have an exciting opportunity to join our Research Team at our Petcare Science Institute in Waltham on the Wolds, Leicestershire. As our Research Scientist Biomarkers, you will ensure successful translation of the WALTHAM™ Research program in practice. This involves the effective co-ordination of resources (people, animals, laboratory, equipment and diets) to deliver high quality data and results to defined study timelines.

You can expect to gain experience of working within exciting areas of our Healthcare research, partnering with associates, contractors and experts across multiple teams to deliver on fast paced and diverse projects in support of global Mars Petcare brands.

What are we looking for?

A Research Scientist to join us for 18 months

Education

  • Minimum: Bachelor degree in a relevant scientific discipline or equivalent experience of running research studies.
  • Preferred: BSc (Hons.) in i.e. nutrition, biological sciences, veterinary, chemistry, food science.

Knowledge/Experience

  • Experience in designing and implementing research studies, preferably in a commercial environment.
  • Excellent communication skills, attention to detail, ability to work in a team, numerate, computer literate, and the ability to create collaborative relationships are essential.
  • Proven skills in planning, organisation, and communication of research outputs.
  • Preferred: Knowledge of statistical data analytic methods. Experience of data visualization in R or Python

What will be your key responsibilities?

  • Manage, implement and deliver internal research studies, including supporting assessment techniques and data collection to deliver quality-assured scientific data.
  • Design, produce and communicate research study protocols and generate support materials for research studies.
  • Collate and run quality control of scientific data and ensure data analysis is carried out in a line with the study objectives and hypothesis (including direct data analysis using well established methods or the analysis tool kit).
  • Communicate study findings in verbal and written form to the relevant WCPN audiences.
  • Develop and continuously improve laboratory or animal techniques in support of research studies, to include training personnel.
  • Co-ordinate and direct research study teams to ensure successful execution of research studies.
